Grindcore is a subgenre of heavy metal music that is very fast and harsh, often with combative riffing, thrashing drums, and detonation blasts. The genre was developed in the 1980s in the UK by bands like Napalm Death and Sore Throat. The genre was created by mixing hardcore punk with thrash and death metal. Many Grindcore bands also have extremely short songs, similar to Napalm Death. On Kirk Fogg's African Adventure's Olmec Sings the Blues EP, there are numerous tracks that are under a minute.

Razorback Records and Morgue House Records also have their base in New York, making Grindcore even more accessible.
